Description

The latter contains a new retro-70s Now logo design and artwork which complements its 80s sister Yearbook series. I don’t think anyone disputes nowadays that the last line is definitely sung as ‘ fried chicken‘, right? We use cookies to give you the best possible experience on our site, provide personalised content and advertising, analyse our traffic, and ensure you see more of what you love. on 24 July 2015, the release dates in the UK and Ireland have been the same following the announcement of the Global Release Day campaign by IFPI, which became effective on 10 July 2015. Election Day was the first fruit and is an exotic belter complete with a mid-section spoke word piece from Grace Jones.

These compilations are very similar to the anniversary series, however, they contain a lower amount of tracks and retailed much cheaper than the former series.Originally, the series captured extended 12" mixes of dance hits of the time, but from 1991 onwards, all Now Dance compilations featured 7" edits with only occasional extended versions or mixes included. The album features three Billboard Hot 100 number-one hits: " Independent Women Part I", " It Wasn't Me", and " With Arms Wide Open". The latter does not promote Now 6 but has small images on Nows 1-5 + Now Dance on the reverse sleeve.

The series is then moved forward again, with the release of Now Yearbook 1992 in July 2023 (an Extra followed in August). All series with the exception of United Kingdom and the United States have been discontinued, New Zealand had two more albums released as a playlist only on Spotify, South Africa had three more albums released as a playlist on Spotify under DJ Kurtis. Not quite as bouncy as you’d usually expect from UB40, but I really quite like the atmosphere of this one. I personally think the pig should have stayed longer too but the compilers obviously had a good reason for discontinuing it I guess.

The Now Yearbook series also releases a vinyl selection of its primary release, with an Extra round-up vinyl boxset featuring tracks from the CD-only series, released at the end of 2022. The 4-CD series follows the same general format of the original Special Editions series, with genre, era, and decade collections, but over four compact discs (there is also an abridged vinyl version of Punk and New Wave and Rock), meaning they contain more tracks than the original special editions, but fewer than the Now 100 Hits, which preceded this series.

EMI and Virgin were the real winners as their first Now spin off – The Christmas Album reached the summit on 21 December 1985.With an astounding global sales figure of over 250 million copies, this franchise has solidified its place as a cultural phenomenon and an essential cornerstone of contemporary music consumption. It features a particularly strong track listing, in my opinion, with post Live Aid Queen ( ‘One Vision’), what turned out to be Nik Kershaw‘s last ever UK hit single (‘When A Heart Beats’), Eurythmics‘ only number one (‘There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart)’), Kate Bush‘s seminal ‘Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)’, Arcadia‘s ‘Election Day’ and many more great songs. In the age of discovery, fans trust NOW to bet right on artists who are ready to take the next step. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Given that they both came out around the same time surely plugging the other album would have been a way of boosting sales?

The image is a leather jacket with a pen along with a list of just some of the artists with the standard “plus many more” tagline. My parents had (and still have) the Communards’ self-titled album on vinyl, so it’s one of those records I grew up with. The Special Editions series includes a wide range of Now anniversary collections, different music genres, eras, and decades, as well as commercial tie-ins with Smash Hits, Disney, Eurovision, HMV and the Official Chart Company. The Eurythmics single was magical the first time I heard it; wonderful vocals and great harmonica from Stevie Wonder.
