She is the author of The Panopticon (2012), The Sunlight Pilgrims (2015) and her first poetry collection The Dead Queen of Bohemia was published by Polygon in 2016, followed by There's a Witch in the Word Machine (2018). Jenni was selected as one of Granta’s Best Young British Novelists after the publication of her debut novel, The Panopticon, which was shortlisted for the Desmond Elliott Prize and the James Tait Black Prize. Fagan views the witch hunt as being purely an expression of male dominance, almost as an essentialist tantrum.

It opens with Jenni's most recent work and includes her previous two collections, both now out of print. inspired by the north berwick witch trials we follow geillis duncan on the night before her execution, where she receives a strange visitor named iris. David Seaton made each of us lie – they tortured me until I said what he had told me to say – they were not witches, and nor am I! This is the second in the (so far) very impressive Darkland Tales series from Polygon, for which modern Scottish authors offer retelling of the country’s history and legend. It balances magic and realism perfectly in reframing the Scottish Witch Trials for its modern readership.

I'm sure there's a decent message about feminism and fighting the patriarchy in here somewhere but I couldn't get past my personal distaste for the writing.

Luckenbooth, sprawling the decades with its themes of repression and revenge, brings back something that has long been lacking in the British novel: ambition. It raises the question – if a country cannot re-tell its history, will it be stuck forever in aspic and condemned to be nothing more than a shortbread tin illustration? I hope you enjoyed reading about them and I really hope you’ll give this novel a chance, it’s a little gem. Ni se transmite lo extraordinario que es su encuentro ni se específica claramente cómo es posible que algo tan increíble haya ocurrido.Iris speaks for Geillis and her outrage at the treatment being meted out to her sister, and she speaks to us with a contemporary voice. We meet Geillis Duncan, a young maidservant from Tranent who has been convicted of witchcraft in the infamous North Berwick witch trials. Got this book during my last hours in Edinburgh, after having it recommended by Jack Edwards himself, IN THE FLESH. La autora a través de este encuentro es que nos va relatando lo que le sucedió a Geillis, las injusticias que tuvo que pasar por la ignorancia, odio, arrogancia y poder de unos pocos.
