Description

A central theme of this book (also found in many of the other Discworld witch novels) is the contrast between, on one side the (female) witches or wiccans, who are in touch with nature, herbs and headology, and on the other side the (male) wizards who are very ceremonial and use elaborate, mathematics-like tools and rituals. Equal Rites sees the traditions of Unseen University challenged in a battle of the sexes initiated by the arrival of Eskarina Smith – the Discworld’s first female wizard! With the help of Granny Weatherwax and Archchancellor Cutangle, who have retrieved the staff, they both manage to transport themselves back into the Discworld. What's more, I've just recent re-read several of the more recent Witch novels from Pratchett, so they're fresh in my head.

Having read through the entire Discworld series, we are now going back and re-reading by the sub-series that make up the whole set. This line comes from the old Irish folk song popularized by Fairport Convention and also recorded by countless other artists from Van Morrison and the Chieftains, to Annie Briggs, to Loreena McKennitt. So the decision is made to take Esk to Unseen University (Granny claims to know it's location but she wouldn't be where she was if she ever admitted ignorance of anything). I was quite surprised that there was so much world-building and we only got to Ankh Morpork and the UU so late in the book because that didn't leave much room for the final problem to arise and then get sorted out, but it turns out that is was just the right amount of everything, mixed together perfectly for the optimal outcome. The fact that it can't speak and how Pratchett found a way to still give it so much character (even more than Luggage from the previous two volumes) is simply amazing! BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy ( Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz ( Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Unfortunately the faculty’s ideas on equal rights are pretty ancient, but thankfully Granny Weatherwax, the Discworld’s most powerful witch, has plenty of experience ignoring the status quo.Whilst I don't remember ever actually reading this book it was wonderful to get reacquainted with Granny W. I initially bought this book to read while I was on holiday and could not put it down the entire time I was away. Add turn indicators consisting of little arms which flip out of the body at roof level, just behind the doors. I hate the word "relatable" and think anyone who uses it in book reviews should be shot, but it is, especially with the New Wave Feminism and all the stuff about Equality being bandied about.

Era una bruja, circunstancia aceptable en las Montañas del Carnero, donde nadie decía nada en contra de las brujas. As the newborn is presented to the father, Drum steps in and passes on the staff to the child, oblivious that the baby is a girl. Her struggles to find her place in the magical world and Granny's attempts to teach her are slightly reminiscent of The Once and Future King, but with a feminine twist. A non-Discworld book, Good Omens, his 1990 collaboration with Neil Gaiman, has been a longtime bestseller and was reissued in hardcover by William Morrow in early 2006 (it is also available as a mass market paperback - Harper Torch, 2006 - and trade paperback - Harper Paperbacks, 2006). The Necrotelicomnicom is another reference to the Phonebook of the Dead (see the annotation for the dedication of Equal Rites), but is also a pun on the evil book of the dead Necronomicon, used by H.

Thankfully Granny Weatherwax, the Discworld's most famous witch, has plenty of experience ignoring the status quo.Bel-Shamharoth is an Elder God of the Discworld first introduced in 'The Sending of Eight' in The Colour of Magic. Justamente este es el primer libro que conforma la saga de las brujas, pero que sin embargo el lector puede pasar al segundo porque no hay relación directa entre los dos libros. Don´t get me wrong, I instrumentalize anything to fit my agenda and continually misuse and wantonly misinterpret the code of objective reviewing, you should have already get used to it if this is not my first review drivel you read, but I at least don´t breed new prejudices. For once the sky was clear, the high Ramtops standing out crisp and white like brides of the sky with their trousseaux stuffed with thunderstorms.
