Description

it's a charming story about a kid who has to send the booby milk back to the moon so other babies can have milk. She was dismayed to find, though, that none of the popular weaning storybooks struck the right tone. Sure, they gave toddlers a heads-up that the milk would soon be gone, but they didn’t imbue the process with the joy, ritual or excitement that she wanted. I implemented a number of the suggestions in the back of the book to make the process more magical for him and easier for us.

We read it for about 2 months and it really helped me wean my daughter when I truly thought there was no end. The story encourages toddlers to share their mother with the new baby and gives them an exciting ritual goodbye / celebration to look forward to once they wean. As Reid points out, you can tweak the details to suit your family – for example, changing ‘booby milk’ to whatever term you use or carrying out the ritual after a special ‘Milkday’ party if your child’s birthday isn’t the right time. Not only does the author give tips, tricks, and resources to the parent in the back of the book, but the story itself is beautifully written in rhyme to keep the little ones attention and the author helps give alternatives if "booby" isn't your go-to word - so it will work for everyone!Highly recommend this book to anyone who may be reaching the end of their breastfeeding journey, and feeling nervous like I was! I am still in a bit of disbelief about how well it worked, while being respectful of him and making it a celebration at the same time.

I thought there would be tears, I thought I might have to make dad do bedtime, so many people told me to go away for a few days to wean. When I first read Booby Moon , I loved the tone and the idea but wondered if the mythological aspect would be right for me when it came time to wean my almost two-year-old.The author includes very detailed information in the back of the book with suggestions on how to go about the process. Book also includes a gentle-parenting user guide that covers: how to wean using Booby Moon, night weaning prior, breaking the fed-to-sleep habit and various options for a meaningful goodbye ritual. In the same way that the Tooth Fairy makes children happy about their teeth falling out, looking forward to seeing Booby Milk magic fly away to Booby Moon can give the same wondrous joy to a weaning toddler. A chance to celebrate a milestone reached, honour the journey thus far and acknowledge this special time for both mother and child.

Following the storybook is an extensive guidebook with plenty of advice, tips and tricks for both the Booby Moon method and the weaning process in general. Note: Book features an illustration of a mother cuddling her toddler to sleep instead of nursing them at night (bed-sharing). Still, I found this book to be a sweet idea for a weaning ritual in a culture that lacks any such thing to provide closure for those who have chosen to breastfeed into the toddler years.

Suitable age 18months - 4 Book features an illustration of a mother cuddling her toddler to sleep instead of nursing them at night (bed-sharing).

A Group Leader is a What to Expect community member who has been selected by our staff to help maintain a positive, supportive tone within a group. I bought a couple of weaning books for Lily, then decided that I wasn't quite ready to wean her yet. It helped us through something I was very apprehensive about, and made the experience something positive for my son.

I'll admit, while I was excited to give reading the book a go, I had a healthy amount of skepticism about how much it would help. Studies show the practice of ritual during times of loss alleviates grief, makes us feel closer to our families and helps us to say goodbye. The ritual aspect of the Booby Moon process helps mother and toddler find an easeful acceptance for Booby Milk going away - with the child seeing the magic leave with their own eyes. I nursed my daughter for over 2 years and to say that she was obsessed with the boob is an understatement.
